About the Career Stories

Want to know if a forensic scientist works like those you see on television? What does it take to become a pediatric oncologist? Do computer scientists wear white coats, work by themselves, and spend the day in front of a computer screen. Find out the answers to these questions in Career Stories, written by middle and high school girls.

Each girl selected a career she was interested in pursuing — attorney, pediatrician, forensic scientist, geologist, or math teacher. Some girls were not interested in a science or technology career per se so they explored the science or technology behind the career as Marissa did. Marissa wants to be point guard for the Women’s Basketball Association. Marissa found out how women make the teams in the league and then she explored the technology used in making basketball shoes. Kendra wants to become an attorney so she explored the science knowledge needed to become a patent attorney — those who assist inventors in obtaining patents for their inventions.

You can find information about careers on the GCC website by watching digital stories, reading wikis, and checking out the web resources. Girls in GCC programs conducted the research and created the stories. If you find something interesting, please post your comments to the career blog.
